Program
Do you want to perfect your vocal technique through Mozart's absolute masterpiece? Participating in a specialization masterclass is not just a moment of study, but a true opportunity to change your artistic path. Le Nozze di Figaro represents the fundamental testing ground for every young singer: from Figaro's irony to the Countess's noble melancholy, every role requires impeccable breath management and phrasing.
What you will learn:
Technique and Interpretation: In-depth study of the Mozartian repertoire and Italian diction, essential for any opera artist of any nationality. The intelligibility of the text is a fundamental training goal for every singer. Through individual study sessions, you will improve your technique to confidently face the musical and vocal difficulties of the score. The technical deepening will focus on the fundamentals of singing technique such as: breathing, the concept of "appoggio" and "sostegno" (breath support); the "open throat," resonance spaces, emission, low, middle, and high registers, and much more.
Stage Craft: Sometimes a fatal mistake is made: thinking that Opera is a concert in costume. Nothing could be further from the truth. If the voice is the singer's soul, stage craft is the body that allows it to reach the audience. That is why you cannot afford to ignore it:
- The audience today watches before they listen: We live in the age of imagery and HD live streaming. Once, a beautiful voice was enough; today, artistic directors and directors look for "singer-actors." If you are not credible as Figaro or Susanna, your perfect technique won't be enough to get you the contract.
- Emotion passes through gesture: Mozart didn't just write notes; he wrote feelings. The spectator is moved when they see a breath become a sigh, a trembling hand, a look that betrays. Stage craft transforms a succession of sounds into an experience that touches the heart.
- Confidence on stage: Knowing how to move, how to handle a cloak, or how to interact with a colleague gives you a mastery that cancels out performance anxiety. When you know who you are on stage, the fear of the high C disappears.
Emotional Management: In opera singing, emotion is a double-edged sword: it is the lifeblood that gives life to the character, but it can become the vocal cords' worst enemy. A singer who lets themselves be overwhelmed by feeling risks muscle rigidity, loss of breath control, and, ultimately, technical error.
Why is emotional control indispensable?
- Breath as an Anchor: Anxiety or excessive emotion alters the respiratory rhythm. Managing emotion means keeping the "center of gravity" low, allowing the diaphragm to work with elasticity even when the character is in the grip of despair or rage.
- Lucidity in Chaos: An opera is a complex machine. While you cry in the role of the Countess, a part of your brain must remain "cold" to watch the conductor, count the rests, and listen to your colleagues. True mastery lies in showing a burning heart while maintaining a mind of ice.
- From Fear to Charisma: Emotional management transforms debut tension into communicative energy. Stage fright, if well-managed, turns into that "jolt" that makes the performance magnetic for the audience.
- Psychological Stamina: An opera lasts for hours. Knowing how to manage emotional peaks avoids nervous and physical collapse, ensuring that the last note is as brilliant as the first.
EXCELLENCE ON STAGE—3 Days With Maestro ALESSANDRO CORBELLI
We are honored to announce that, as part of the training program, an exclusive three-day in-depth session will be held with the great Alessandro Corbelli, a global point of reference for the Mozart and Rossini repertoire. Being able to study Le Nozze di Figaro with someone who has performed on the stages of Teatro alla Scala, the Metropolitan in New York, and the Royal Opera House in London in the roles of Figaro, the Count, and Don Bartolo, is a truly unique opportunity.
What you will learn with Maestro Corbelli:
- The secret of recitative: How to make Mozartian phrasing alive, theatrical, and incisive.
- The art of comic phrasing (fraseggio buffo): Technical precision combined with irony and style.
- Life experience: Practical advice from someone who has made opera history over the last forty years.
